Brendan - dunno if you've had any feedback yet but here goes:

A couple of points regarding desktop folder colors:

The first is just from my own experience and that is - don't put folders on
the desktop, instead, put them somewhere else, then create a shortcut on
your desktop to the folder.

The reason I do this is that it's far easier to customise the shortcut than
a folder.  You can even use a jazzy new icon, there are thousands of these
around on the net. I have a few myself if you want some.

Issue two - I seem to recall there are methods of coloring desktop folders
but, as I've never needed to (see above), I didn't bother to record the
details of the method.

Also, there are icon collections around (I think I might have these
somewhere, too) which are just folder icons of different colors.

However, I just did a google for 'change folder color' and got umpteen
thousand references, so I think you'll find what you want on the net.
