1) Use the NAT feature of a router.

2) Keep Windows and all your applications patched and up to date.
3) Try to know the sites you visit are *not* "out to get you"...
The third part is the hardest, but some "real-time" monitoring
sites will let you know (in your browser) what "may" be safe, or not.
