Hello PC Soft,
I'd really like your help in understanding the Windows Registry. I know that every Windows OS has one, but I'd like to know it's purpose, and how it can be corrupted. Before I reformatted my drive and reinstalled Windows 98 on Sunday, I always thought I took good care of my little baby here. I realized on Sunday that I wasn't. Now that I have the programs I want back onto my system here, how does the Windows registry work and how can it be corrupted? Is it due to too much uninstall/reinstall? Too much use of Scandisk or Disk Defragmenter? When I went through the registry quickly on Sunday before I reinstalled Windows 98 SE, I even noticed that some items in programs are included in the registry itself. A good example is Winzip. The directories I last unzipped files to were not only in the program itself, but also in the registry. When I change settings in Windows (ie: the sound scheme), does the registry update the entries accordingly, or is even that a way the registry can become corrupted? If it matters, the hard drive uses is formatted for the FAT filing system. All help is always appreciated. pg
