It is not clear if you un-installed Norton AV, or simply
let the subscription to the DEFinition files expire...
If you "only" let it "expire", you are stuck at the date it expired
and any new "virus" stuff that comes along WILL "get you"...
I would "un-do" what you said you did to Norton, and then un-install it.

If you still have problems after properly un-installing the Norton stuff,
you may need to use their cleaning utility to get rid of any left over junk...

You might even have to un-install and then re-install the Avast stuff,
but it seems to be aware of Norton and "seems" to handle it well...
