I recently received a question from a reader of my
newsletter, expressing concern over the following files
appearing daily in her C:\Windows\temp folder. These files
are named things like:
trb291.tmp 0 KB 1:04PM 2/9/99
                                                            or
trb4184.tmb 0 KB 1:16PM 2/9/99

It's amazing how various programs will set temp files in the system.
Trying to find out which ones are doing it is not an easy task. I don't
know of any software that can tell where they come from.

What I have done in the past to identify these critters is, delete any
and all temp files. Reboot the machine and go into the temp file and see
if anything is there. If not, open each program and run it, one at a
time until the files show up again. Either that or keep a log with
program name, time ran and the date. Either way is a pain.

I haven't discovered an easier way but then again I haven't ask the list
either. <smile> Now that the problem is public, I would appreciate any
feed back on this one myself.

Sincerely,

Frank Suszka
