I don't understand how that could happen.  I would do one of the following:
in control panel, add / remove programs, try repair.  If that doesn't help,
Uninstall Office, and reinstall using custom, and in the tools section,
specify that equation editor be installed now.

That's the problem, MS Eq 3.0 is not in the menu that appears.
