I have a *huge* spreadsheet and have run out of column letters (or memory)
or something. I am up to column HZ or so (starting at A thru Z, AA...AZ,
BA...BZ, etc) and am trying to move columns around. What happens is when I
"cut" columns to move them, the column numbers that are "cut" are just
skipped and new column numbers are added at the end. That is, when I move
columns F, G and H, the column numbers are A,B,C,D,E,I,J,...etc.). This is
ok for a while, but then Excel refuses to let me move the columns, giving a
message that there are too many columns. I can close the spreadsheet,
close Excel, re-start Excel, and open the spread sheet and the column
numbers are properly "in order without skipping the moved columns. (Back to
A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,..etc.).

Is there a way to force Excel to re-number the columns without having to
completely shutdown Excel?

TIA

Doug Simmons
