There are several tricks with Javascript or similar "features" that
some web sites try in order to do this.
My observation is that more than half the sites that try this don't
really get it right, and the remainder can be "defeated" by programs
like the shareware SnagIt.
As a digital photographer and graphics designer, I can understand
why you'd want to be able to do this. But the nasty fact that the
movie and music corporations are running up against is that if the
user can play/view the content on a PC, they can almost certainly
capture it to a file, and you can throw millions of dollars of effort
into stopping them without really getting very far.
The one approach that seems to offer some chance of success is to
give away low-res versions, and try to get people to pay to obtain
higher-quality versions, but without some workable form of copy
protection, there's little to stop pirates from making copies of the
high-res versions once they get them.
