Hi Mick,
Here are two ways to disable the Messenger Service. The easy way is to go to
Steve Gibson's GRC Web site, download and run the 22 KB "Shoot The
Messenger" utility for Windows NT/2000/XP. Messenger Service in Windows
98 & ME cannot be disabled. http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm
Disable the service manually as follows:
Windows 2000
Click Start \ Settings \ Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows XP Home
Click Start \ Settings \ Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows XP Professional
Click Start \ Settings \ Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Click Services
Double click Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows NT
Click Start \ Control Panel
Double Click Administrative Tools
Select Services \ Double-click on Messenger
In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop,
Then choose Disable as the Startup Type
Click OK

Subject: [PCSOFT] Messenger Service popups
Hello
When I'm online I keep getting 'Messenger Service popups' offering me all
kinds a spam type email
Is there anyway I can stop this and prevent it happening again?
TIA ... Mick
