Problem solved! In case others run into this, I am sharing how I fixed the
drive volume name problem. 

 

It turns out that TrueCrypt does not encode the volume name within the
drive, but rather in the favorites area. To solve the problem of two drives
being assigned the same name, I just deleted all favorites from TrueCrypt
and then recreated them one by one.
