Greetings Don & list--

I just had occasion to rescue a SONY Vaio computer in just this situation.
As I had created the XP boot floppy set, I was able to copy ntldr from another
floppy to the root of the ailing drive. On restart, chkdsk ran and the XP Home computer started up as it always had. So many computers from larger producers
(Dell, Gateway, Compaq, SONY, HP, etc.) do not include recovery
disks (in favor of a recovery partition), and it's not clear to me how one would
go about creating the boot floppies. Is it done from the MS backup utility, like
in Windows 2000, or is it done differently? [Please pardon my ignorance, as
I've built my own XP computers and have used the retail install CD both to access
the Recovery Console and to create boot floppies.]

Thanks for the info.
