I went through this a couple of weeks ago. I finally found the best way to
get rid of them is to do this:

Go to Start/Programs/MS Dos
at the c:\Windows promt type del cookies
  press enter
put in a y for yes
press enter

This deleted all the cookies on my system except for about 6 that I could
find no way to get rid of. Some nice person sent me a program to use to get
rid of the last ones but I was afraid to use it and lost it when Proteva
wiped out my HD.

Question was:
Under my windows folder, i have a aubfolder called 'temporary
internet files, and under that a folder called content.IE5, and
under that several foldrs with what look like garbage letterand
number names. Theser latter folders contain hundreds of cookie
files... most of which seem to be the same......

can i safely delete these and is there any sense in retaining
them..???
Thanks
