Hello Dave,

There is a minor Registry change you can make to change the default location
for program installation. Although this is easy and simple to do, never
attempt any changes to the Registry without first making a backup. You can
use a small program called ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) for this.
You can get it here:

ERUNT and NTREGOPT:
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

The NTREGOPT (NT Registry Optimizer) is part of the download and
instructions for both are on the download site. Depending on your system,
the backup will probably be 15-20 MB in size. The default save location is
C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT. You will have an opportunity to change it and I recommend
your E: drive or a partition other than the one Windows is installed on. You
may want to copy it to a CD or an external drive if one is available.

After you make the backup, go to Start\Run and type "regedit" in the Open
text box. Click "OK". This launches the Registry Editor.

In the Registry Editor, go to the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

In the right pane of the console, right-click the ProgramFilesDir entry.

Click Modify.

In the Edit String dialog box, type in a new path, such as "E:\Program
Files" (that will set the new default location as the Program Files folder
on the E: drive).

Click "OK". Go to File\Exit to close the Registry Editor.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Installing AIM to different drive

Hello Listers,
AIM (AOL Inatant Messenger) recently came out with version 6 and prompted me
to update from version 5.9. Naturally I went to install it but
unfortunately it installed it on my C: drive. I wanted to install it on my
E: drive where I have version 5.9. I uninstalled it and went tried to
reinstall it paying close attention where I had the opportunity to change
the drive to install to. I never say or was given the chance to.
It appears that AOL assumes it will be installed on everyones C: drive. I
thought it would automatically install over version 5.9 which is on my E:
drive.
Does anyone know how to change the default install drive to another drive?
I've installed and uninstalled twice so far and until I can find out how to
change drives I'll stick with my current version.
TIA
Dave Schroeder
