Hi David,

The About:Blank hijacker is a variant of a more advanced Cool Web Search
hijacker. There are several versions and all are difficult to remove. You
can read about Cool Web Search here:

The CoolWebSearch Chronicles...
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Here is a page from the PC Hell Web site on removal:

PC Hell: How to Remove About:Blank Homepage Hijacker:
http://www.pchell.com/support/aboutblank.shtml

At the PC Hell site scroll to "AUTOMATIC REMOVAL METHOD" and
check out "Adware Away". Also, in addition to the protection you have, I
recommend you install SpywareBlaster. You can get it here:

SpywareBlaster
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

The "DSO Exploit" that SpyBot finds is a false positive and is caused by a
bug in Internet Explorer (IE) that has supposedly been patched if you are up
to date at Windows Update and have the latest IE. After the SpyBot scan is
complete, expand the DSO Exploit entry. Select each of the five entries,
then right click and select one of the options to "Exclude from further
searches", or words to that effect.

Thank you, Lynn. I used it. The new address of the program is
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/startpageguard.html
However, it did not get rid of the file that comes up as my start page. The
screen *says* about:blank, but it still loads up another file (apparently
d3lx.dll, DeskAdServ.exe, and/or atlgw32.exe) and does not let me load up IE
until after a lengthy pause!
