I have not encountered any such problems, but there are a couple of things
to look at here. First of all, try uninstalling the freeware programs that
you installed. Though they may have worked fine on Win9x, they may not
necessarily be stable on ME, specially if they are DOS programs, since ME
has done away with DOS. Also, I would advise against using any third party
restoration programs as this can sometimes conflict with ME's own System
Restore Function.
