Thanks to all who provided info about the background to PKZip and WinZip.

While I'm on the subject, someone asked me why I don't like WinZip 8.1 (I
use 8.0)  Sorry, whoever that was, I inadvertently deleted the post before I
could reply.

The reason is simple - 8.1 has a longwinded context menu. 8.0's is simpler
and better.
