Alan Schneder asked what kind of tests I ran to check the McAfee Image.
Nothing fancy I'm afraid. Not having a troubleshooting guide in the
pamphlet that came with the software, I checked my system although I had
not had a problem with it before installing Nuts and Bolts. I ran the
following tests. All passed correctly.
1 - Standard Windows tests
Defrag,
Scan Disk (both standard and thorough),
RegClean.
2 - CleanSweep by QUARTERDECK
Cleanup,
Registry Sweep,
Fast Cleanup,
Searched for orphan DLLs etc.
3 - Checkit 4 (An old test program)
System Test,
Interrupt Tests,
Memory test.
4 - Nuts & Bolts (When I finally got the system to boot)
PC Checkup,
Cleanup,
Registry.
Again - all passed the tests correctly.
I called NAI today and after pushing several buttons got the N&B service
group. The lady said they were experiencing an unexpected large number
of calls and that there could be a wait. Next she said the "all of our
technicians are busy . . ..." I waited for a while and gave up. I then
sent a fax to NAI detailing the problem and asking for help. I couldn't
find a good fax number so I sent it to the Corporate headquarters. We'll
see.
I also had troubles with the first issue of First Aid. It's on the
shelf somewhere.
