Assuming that this is an internal modem:

You aren't expecting to see Com 4 listed in Device Manager under Ports are
you?  The port on a modem usually will not show up under ports in Device
Manager.  External modems or hardware modems (usually ISA), yes; but
internal winmodems or part of a motherboard chip set, no.  If the port
shows properly under the Modem section of Device Manager it is probably
ok.  If you are having other problems with the modem, perhaps you can
describe what the problem is and we'll see if we can help.
