Like Sven, I've no idea what you mean by the "Luke Firewater screen".
In addition to Sven's recommendations, if installation has proceeded
properly, you should be able to scan any drive by right clicking the My
Computer for that drive and you should see a "Scan with AVG" option. You'll
see the same option by right-clicking any file or folder.
Run msconfig/startup to ensure it is starting at startup. You should see a
greyish square icon in Systray, which will bring up its configuration
control panel.
Some members, including myself, have had trouble updating AVG recently from
its default update site. Seems it is suffering from overload (getting too
popular?). Here's a workaround which will give you 3 alternative update sites:
"Go to Grisoft\AVG6 folder, find the file "URL.INI" and open it with Notepad.
Delete what's in there, then cut and paste the following:
[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com
[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=3"
When you get the update window, you'll now get the alternative update sites
from the dropdown arrow. I've found the 2nd one is the best.
