I agree that "any~" attachment "could" be a virus...
But I find that with my MSOE6-sp1 (on XP-Pro) with ALL the
normal patches, getting around this limitation is "child's play"...

All I do is start a "Forward"
(don't send -- you don't even have to put in a name to send to...)

When "viewing" the forwarded message in the resulting message
composition window, the attachments can be easily opened or
saved to disk. (These "choices" were added by an old patch...)

As in all computer related things, depending on your version and
state of your patching, YMMV...
