Hi John,
Click on Tools, Options, Dial Up and you will see "Hang up after sending,
receiving, or downloading".  If you uncheck that, you will not be
disconnected.  HOWEVER, why in the world would you want to stay connected
while you read your mail?  Doing so only ties up your server's telephone
line unnecessarily.
