The History and the address bar are not the same.  History is a
sidebar with all the pages you've visited and the address bar list is
generally those you have typed in.
To clear the address bar, you need to go into the registry and clear
it.  If you're not comfortable in the registry, you can download a
tweaking program, in particular X-Teq Systems X-Setup.

If you install it, look under Internet|INternet Explorer|Clear|Clear
Items and click the "Clear typed URLS" button.
