The first test you should perform is also the quickest and easiest.  Set
the clock forward to 12/31/98 at 11:57pm then shut down the PC for 5-10
minutes.  If the bios and hardware are Y2k compatible, then it will boot
just fine.  WARNING: you need to be sure of the procedures for getting
into the CMOS settings BEFORE you do this test (so that you can reset the
clock if things don't go well).

From that point.... MS has a Y2K test program plus several patches for
their software at http://support.microsoft.com and ZDNet (www.zdnet.com)
has an on-line Y2K test.

Finally I would work with the individual software vendors for their
particular patches/upgrades.

There are a bunch of sites on the 'net which offer free Y2K tests, but
since the majority of them have a secondary agenda (of selling you
patches/fixes/services), I'm not so sure how valid or accurate they are.
