I saw your pop up problem.  I had the same one and found the answer in a newsletter from the computer lady.
Below is what I did and it worked!  I have XP Home, btw.

Go To:
Start
Control Panel
Performance and Maintenance
Administration Tools
Services
Scroll down until you see "Messenger"
Dbl, Click
When it opens, go to General tab
Next to the "Start up" tab, select "Disable"
Then under the "Service Status" click "Stop"
Then "apply"
then OK

You should have any more pop up ads.  At least they stopped them for me.
