  Actually, it's not a Netscape feature, but is the result of a Windows
setting. Netscape will make a socket call, and if one is present, will
use it. To disable this, go to Control Panel|Internet
Options|Connections and check the "Never Dial a Connection" radio
button.
  This is an example of what I find so fascinating about computers and
the folks who use them. I can't count the number of times I've seen
"Help, Netscape won't automatically dial up my Internet connection".
Computers never cease to amaze, now if only I could turn off the darned
commercials on TV.
