Hi Sue,

Try this first: Search your hard drive for 'desktop.scf'. If you find it,
right-click, drag and drop it onto your Quick Launch bar and release it. In
the pop up menu select "Create Shortcuts Here".

If it has been deleted (search doesn't find it) you can follow these steps
to re-create the Show Desktop icon.

1. Open Notepad or any text editor.

2. Use your mouse to select the following lines exactly as I've entered
them, and then right-click and choose Copy.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

3. Click in the empty document in your text editor and choose Edit, Paste.

4. Choose File, Save As. For the name of the new file, enter "Show
Desktop.scf" (be sure to include the quotation marks). For the Save in
location, choose the Desktop.

5. Close the text editor.

6. On the Desktop, right click the new icon, drag and drop it onto the Quick
Launch bar. In the pop up menu choose "Move Here".

The Show Desktop icon now appears on the Quick Launch toolbar where it
belongs.

For your information the Quick Launch folder is located here in XP: C:\
Documents and Settings \ Sven (your user name) \ Application Data \
Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Quick Launch.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Shortcut to Desktop

I've done this on my home computer and need to do it on my work laptop, but
totally forgot how to do this.

How do I generate an icon to go on the tray at the bottom of the screen to
"Show Desktop"  ?

I'm using XP Pro.

Thanks!
