Hi Dave,
Yes, all future program installs will be in the location you specify when
you make the Registry change. There is a "side effect" to making this change
and that is, it also changes the default location of all programs already in
C:\Program Files. I also install my programs to a different drive and when I
made the change, certain Windows programs installed on C: drive suddenly
became unavailable (Windows Media Player, Outlook Express, Notepad, etc.).
In view of this, I would recommend you only make the change as needed to
install a program, such as AIM 6.0, that doesn't provide an opportunity to
specify the install location. Then, once the program is installed,
immediately reverse the change. I haven't tried it in this manner but it
should work since the program files are not 'physically' moved by the
change. It did not affect any programs installed on my second drive.
I think your choices at this point are to stay with version 5.9 and wait for
AOL to change their way of thinking (not likely), or use another program
such as Trillian. You can check out Trillian here:

Sven,
Will all future installation of programs be place on the E: drive after
making this registry change? I don't necessarily want that to happen. I
use my E: drive for any programs the kids are installing. That way they
won't fowl up the OS which by the way is XP home with SP2 and all current
updates.
