I would recommend temporarily reinstalling Outlook Express and opening the
recovered *.mbx files. Then you can click on File, Export, Messages and
export all your messages to Outlook.

Then you can uninstall Outlook express and move on to Outlook.

As to how many messages you want to keep? That's up to you and the
capability of our system. I generally export messages of value to Word
documents as they take up less space and are easier to search for whatever
info I may need.
