MS has finally put the Windows 98 service pack on the web.
You can now download the service pack for free. Just click on the WINDOWS
UPDATE option in your START menu. Then click the link for PRODUCT UPDATES
and scroll down to find SERVICE PACK 1.
The file is listed as 1.6 megs but the write up says it can be anywhere from
2-6 megs total. The "updater" will check your system and download only
those components you need AND it installs everything automatically. For my
particular system, it downloaded 2.57 megs of stuff.
The bad thing (for us control freaks that like to know everything that is
happening inside the machine) is that it does not tell you what it is
downloading or updating. It just does it. The good thing is it is a quick,
painless, and simple process.
