Hi Amado,
I too have a similar problem. I run Win 98SE, Netscape Navigator 4.08(I
did not want all of the addins that you get with the Communicator package)
and AIM I downloaded separately from AOL. I have a Pentium 133 with 80M of
ram. While my problem is not as severe as you describe, it comes close.
I found a couple of things that helped. First I started using a program
called "RamBooster". I went to
http://www.sci.fi/~borg/rambooster/
read everything and downloaded it. I use 6M for an alarm/trigger setting
and 39M for a target setting. This helped quite a bit. But what I think
helped me the most is something I read a month ago on this list. The
possibility that program combinations similar to Anti-Virus/Cleansweep
Usage Monitor, were causing each other to generate a lot of overhead. So I
turned off the Usage Monitor.
Between the two actions, I have greatly improved the situation. And
sometimes I go on the Net for 3-4 hours at a time. BTW, the RamBooster
audio alarm will make you jump the first few times it goes off.
HTH,
Tom
