This message means that your username under what you are log in to Win98 are
unknown to Win2k. In this case Win2k can use Guest account if it is not
disabled.

It seems to me that you use Guest account but somehow this disabled.

What you must do
1. Scan both computers or viruses. Changes are possibly made by Nimda
virus/worm.
2. Check Windows Critical Updates for both computers.
3. Create account on Win2k with same name and password as it is on laptop.
     Alternately you can enable Guest password, but using it for work is not
recommended
     as anyone can access under that account.
