You can get the same effect with the DOS "SUBST" command, e.g. SUBST D: C:
Try typing SUBST with no parameters to see if any are in effect.
Except ... it doesn't show up in FDISK. That suggests (and I'm guessing now)
a problem with the disk partition table.
