MIDI software is almost another world unto itself. The Midi language
itself is similar to the line coded HTML files, but companies such as
Cakewalk and Finale have put a front end on code generation. My son is a
Computer/Music major at VT and has all sorts of music software, with
Cakewalk Pro being the one he uses most for composition and music
modification. I have not seen Cakewalk Lite, but most MIDI software
requires that you know "music" and musical notation. If you want to cut
off notes from the beginning and ending of some songs and know traditional
musical notation, the shareware program "Mozart" (it used to be shareware,
haven't looked recently) is probably the simplest to use out of the box.
You do not need anything except a keyboard (and a sound card if you want to
hear the music) to edit the files.
