I can't pinpoint when it started, but my DUN connection has really taken a
performance hit recently.

Traceroutes used to list average response times in the 100-150msec range,
now they are always well above 500msec.

The only recent changes to my system were to upgrade from Front Page 98 to
2000 and I installed Corel Office 2000 (after unininstalling version 8)

System is:
EpOx ATX board with k6-III/400 and 128meg RAM.
PCI Modem is 56K V/F/D with Rockwell chipset and has been trouble-free since
purchased 8-10 months ago.
ATI expert98 AGP video
SB AWE 64 sound.

So far, I have:
Confirmed the problem IS inside my machine by dialing in and testing at 2
client sites.
Deleted the modem drivers and reinstalled them.
Physically removed and reinstalled the modem
(and the drivers.... again).
Reinstalled DUN 4.0.

Any ideas?
