In general, you have to produce the old program install media
and at least "show it" to the new install as part of the upgrade
re-install process.
(I seldom have to actually install the older version of the program.)
It is a "check" to see if you actually are an upgrader. (Or as much
as they "can" do to verify that.)

So, the bad news is, you generally have to comply with the request
to produce the old media (sometimes for only a couple seconds)...
