Have you checked WordPad or any other program to see if it lists these
extra fonts?
If they are listed in other programs then you need to uninstall Word (and
manually delete the leftovers) and then reinstall (after rebooting).
If the fonts are not listed in other programs then see if you can view the
font with the Windows Explorer. The font may be corrupted. Also don't
forget that some fonts are for the screen only. And other fonts have
separate files for different attributes of the same font. But that still
wouldn't account for 4-500 missing fonts.
You may need to delete the font "manager" and re-expand it from the
cabinet on you windows CD. The file is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM/FONTREG.EXE.
You didn't say what version of Windows you have so I can't tell you which
cabinet it would be in.
