On my W98SE rig, I've just trialled a program called Startup Organiser, which is supposed to enable one to control which stuff loads at startup. To cut a long story short, I uninstalled it, only to find it's left behind an icon in my Control Panel folder which I can't eradicate.

Right clicking on the icon gets 2-options; Open, which does nothing, and Create a Shortcut, which does just that, creates a shortcut back to the icon.

The uninstall process was done in the usual way, via Add\Remove programs. Also I've
fine combed the registry for associated entries, of which I found and removed a few, including in the areas of Run, Runonce etc etc.

Msconfig\Startup shows nothing untoward. And a similar type of program to Startup Organizer, called StartEd, shows nothing sigificant in the start area.

As far as I can tell, there's no trace of the program left anywhere except in my Control Panel window. But I would like to find out where this icon is being called from, for future reference if no other reason.

Obviously, every computer has a set of startup instructions which tells Windows what and how to load. Somewhere in there will be a subset of commands about which icons are to be used, and where they're to go.

Anyone know where this information is to be found?

TIA
