You are absolutely right, it didn't work for me either. What I did was
follow the same procedure as below but I removed Client for Microsoft Network
or something like that in the top box up above the Windows Logon area.
Highlight Client for Microsoft Network then click on Remove. A screen will
come up asking you to insert your Windows 98 CD, but just click on Cancel.
Then reboot your computer. This will take care of the problem, at least it
did for me. Took me forever to get rid of that "pop-up" window and it is
aggravating.

Logon to "Windows Logon". When you reboot your system there will be no logon
screen or password.
I tried this, but it didn't work. It's still there. Does anyone have any
