Hello all!
I would have tried the system restore, but my first act with this computer
was to eliminate all the spyware on it - and I routinely disable system
restore to accomplish this. Good idea Paul <whacks himself with a can of V8>
but I blew it.

We got the machine back to useable by manually uninstalling Zonealarm. After
a sigh of relief, we tried to reinstall ZA and got the all-too-familiar
message that vsinit.dll caused a protection error. Since we deleted that
file, I am suspecting a rogue registry entry?
