If you have Internet Explorer 4.0x installed, then the floppy drive seek during
the save process in WP8 is a known problem, and is taken care of, usually, by
installing the appropriate service patches, or by de-activating the Active
Desktop component of IE4.

There are three service packs, and which one you need is dependent on the
version of WP8 you are running. You can find your version number by opening
WordPerfect, clicking the help menu, and clicking "About". If you have version
8.0.0.225, all you need is Service Pack 3, which will upgrade your software to
8.0.0.392. If your version is below 8.0.0.225 (like .153 or .168), then you
need the Corel WP Rev B CD-ROM before you proceed.

Further information, and downloadable Service Packs, can be found at

The floppy drive seek at shutdown is a common occurance for systems running
McAfee or Norton Anti-virus.
