I'm sure if he were here today, we could hear Confucius say "You get what you
pay for."
What the friends you are attempting to help need are a browser properly
configured to dial, and a the mail handler properly set with in and out mail
server settings. Not "Which files do they need or need to change to make the
transition?" Any ISP worth it's salt will supply theses items as part of
their service. AOL has it's own mail handler, and it's own customize IE5.
Once online though, the user can open additional IE5 or Netscape (etc)
sessions to browse the Internet. Most likely a complete new browser and mail
handler is needed.
Like the TV commercial selling oil change states "You can pay me now, or you
can pay me later." So to, with ISP's. You can pay them 1st or spend you &
your friends time trying to figure it out. Ether way, a cost is associated
with the solution. What's your time worth? How long are your friends willing
to wait to be on the Internet?
