I won't repeat the good advice you've already had re Q1.
Q2: To keep it out, use any good antispyware program in active mode, such
as Winpatrol + Spyware Terminator or Spyware Blaster.
These will seek your permission whenever any software tries to install
itself or put itself into your startups.
