Aside from the transparent .GIF export already mentioned, you can have
interactive transparency in any image as long as you save it as a PhotoShop
document (.PSD). The image has to be grayscale, RGB, or CMYK to do this:
black & white will not work. Just open the image, and then open your
"layers" palette. Double-click on the "background" layer (it should be the
only one there...). You will then be asked to name the layer...hit ok, then
use your eraser to "knock out" opaque color. You can also use the "paint
bucket" with the tool option set to "clear." Hope this helps...

Dear Gary: In the help menu of Adobe Photoshop 5.0, there is a tool
entitled export transparent image. This will allow you to create a .gif
file with a transparent background that can be loaded to the web. Good
luck. If you need more specific instructions, e-mail for them.
