Deleting a file with Windows 2000 is extremely slow. It takes anywhere from 5
to 40 seconds to delete a file or folder (even an empty folder) using Windows
Explorer. All other operations, e.g. file copying, are 'normal'. During the
delete, the hard drive is very 'busy'. The PC is has an AMD 500 CPU, 256M
memory, the hard drive partition is about 12G, Windows 2000 SP1 and SP2 have
been installed. Setting the recycle bin ON/OFF has little effect. There are
50,000+ files on the hard drive which is about 60% full. I have another PC with
a similar setup except it runs Windows NT. On that PC, file deletes occur in a
fraction of the Windows 2000 time. I haven't been able to find anything about
this behavior on the Microsoft support site. Can anyone help? Thanks
