The threading on this is getting very confusing.  I think Rick
is the one with the problem, but it's hard to tell due to some
people adding comments at the begining and others adding comments
to the end.

Anyway... to whomever.  Stop trying to repair this from inside a
dos WINDOW.  You must completely exit Windows to the DOS environment.
Once you get to the DOS level, run the dos version of SCANDISK to make
sure the disk is "clean".  Then CD down to the \PRIVATE level and
issue an ATTRIB command with no switches or parameters, it will act like
a DIR plus tell you what is/isn't hidden.  Unhide and/or remove
any system attributes and finally use DELTREE <dirname>.

If this doesn't work, then Maxtor is your last resort.
