I do not know if this works in ME but it does in XP. What I propose will
reduce the icons on the desktop to one faint icon.
1. Create a new folder on the desktop (right click / New / Folder).
2. Give it a short name such as "Main".
3. Drag the folder icon over the Start button. The folder name will
now appear in the Start list.
4. Right Click the folder icon on the desktop and select properties.
5. Tick the Attributes Hidden box.
6. Open the new folder and drag all the desktop icons into that folder.
7. Close the folder and move the icon to an acceptable place on the
desktop.
Your icons can now be displayed by opening the folder by either clicking
the desktop icon or the "Main" in the Start list. Close the folder after
use.
