Hi Dean

I have an iPad with Kindle app and 1750 books that I purchased (or
downloaded) from Amazon.com...all presently on the iPad. I prefer to
keep them on the iPad in case I have a problem connecting to a wireless
network. (I have the 64 GB iPad.)

My way of getting books onto my iPad is as follows: First open the
Kindle app on the iPad. Maker sure the view is set for "All items". If
you touch the topmost book showing on the screen and drag it downward
(say an inch), a small "Release to synch" should appear in the space
between the book and the top of the window. Release the drag and you
should either see "Synced" or "Synch has failed" in small print. If it
failed, try again...a couple of times may be necessary. You'll probably
see your purchased book(s) (or items) appear on screen. The new book
may have a circle with a down arrow at the right. If so, you know the
item is still in the cloud. (That's why I said it set the screen to
show all items.) Touch the item (anywhere) and the circle with arrow
will change to a circle with X inside it while the book downloads. Once
the download is complete, the circle disappears and you can open the
item (book, magazine, doc, etc.) for reading by touching it.

Obviously, your iPad must be networked while you are downloading books.

If a new item (book, etc.) doesn't appear, log onto your Amazon.com
"Magage your Kindle" webpage. Find the book (item) you want and click
on the "Action" button (far right column). Choose "Deliver to my" and
then "iPad" from the drop down menu that appears. If you do this, I
don't think you need to worry about the circle with arrow or X inside
it because the item should automatically download when you Sync the
iPad for new Kindle items.

There are other ways to do this, but I like my way best. Because I
mainly use the iPad for Kindle or Nook reading, I never bothered to
learn how to synch with my PC. (Well, I did at first but decided I
didn't like the method.) I admit that my method didn't always work well
with earlier versions of the iPad operating system, but it works great
with the latest version that I have installed.

Interestingly enough, I find that the iPad3 Kindle app works much
better than the Kindle for PC program on my PC (Windows XP SP3, 3 GB
useable ram, 6 core 3.5 GHz processor, five SSD drives, 30" monitor).
Go figure.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Bill
