  "Safe mode" is a restricted operating mode, intended to allow you
to fix some problem with your machine.  Once the problem is fixed,
you should be able to boot into "normal" mode and have all the
functionality you're used to.
  It sounds like you are trying to do normal work while still in
"safe mode".
