From: Rick Glazier:
If a feature is not secure, (and lots are not), sometimes
the only way to fix it is to shut it off and (for THEM) to
find a secure way to inplement that feature, (if possible)...

That would be okay, IF they told you and gave you a choice, so that something didn't just suddenly stop working and you have no idea why - and waste hours trying to find out.

I can't say I ever noticed that on other computers, but I
generally hunt down and turn off any such settings in "most"
programs...

When I asked ZoneAlarm to automatically block Word2003 or used one-time blocking, then Word2003 wouldn't run. I couldn't find any way to run it without the "phoning home". I don't mind if I click "help" and it wants to go to the internet for more information - I can allow that as a one-time access because I know why it is going. However, arbitrarily connecting to the internet everytime it starts up is not okay with me. If you know of a way to "turn off" the phone home behavior of Word2003 everytime it initializes, then I will buy it again. Otherwise, I'll stick with Word2000. Do you know how to do it?

I installed it through Office. I wonder if I browsed the cd and just installed word2003 only, if that would work? I don't want to buy it again to find out and then it still not work.

Does anyone know how to get Word2003 to work without "phoning home" everytime it starts up?

Thanks,
AnnaSummers
