I'm using WinXP Home. It matters not which word processor, browser, image editor or program I use. When trying to highlight text, select a portion of an image, outline an area of any program, the selection is unsuccessful. The text does not stay highlighted. The portion of an image I want to work with is not selected. Using Microsoft Streets and Trips an area of the map cannot be selected to zoom in on. Etc, etc.

When trying to select a portion of something (highlight text in a word processor
or web page or select a portion of a graphic) it is successful less than 10% of
the time on the first try and may never be successful. I need suggestions where
to even begin to try and fix this.

What operating system (i.e. Windows 95/98/me/98se/2000/xp), and what happens
when you are "unsuccessful". In other words, what happens when you try to
highlight text and you are unsuccessful? What word processor and version
number, browser and version number.
